Mya’s self-discovery mantra, (“I can do this”) and dreams came crashing down when she was diagnosed with stage 2, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Mya hit rock bottom, but while in treatment she received the support and love from her family, friends, and fellow dance peers. Nothing was going to keep Mya Rodriguez down! Though her body and muscular stability had grown weak, her drive was formidable! Mya is smiling and dancing again, taking up to 6 classes a week. Her spirit and passion mixed with fierce determination pulled her through this ordeal. Mya wants to share her story with other young people fighting unforeseen illnesses.
Accepting her plight and reshaping her energies allowed Mya to have a bright new outlook on her life. In closing, Mya Rodriguez is an excellent hard worker.

“Anything you throw at Mya, she will handle and grow with it and from it. Mya had the respect of the cast and crew because of her ambition to work hard and work smart. Mya is an individual who I consider extremely talented in a multifaceted array of talents. We often joke and say to her, “What don't you do?”. It is with great honor that I recommend Mya Rodriguez to your company. She would be a tremendous asset lending her brain to gain more knowledge, her heart to share it with others, and her personality to make others happy.

“Her caring nature and personality allowed her to work well with others in a team setting, as she always respects others' opinions even when they differ from her own. When we held a conversation around structural innovations, Mya opted to speak for both sides, sometimes opposite her own views. She explained her choice as motivated by a desire to put herself in other people's shoes, view the issues from a new perspective, and gain a clearer sense of the issue from all angles. Throughout the year, Mya demonstrated this openness to and empathy for the opinions, feelings, and perspectives of others, along with shrewd powers of observation, all qualities that make her outstanding as a professional..”

During the pandemic, Mya created a video with her classmates to show support for the teachers in her high school.

Mya is now a sophomore at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts and on Sunday afternoon, she will share her singing talents with Giants Nation in front of more than 82,000..”
